(BLF) team visited St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland, on 9th October 2024.
The pupils in primary 4, 5, and 6 were combined into two classes. Three main topics were treated: SEX EDUCATION, PERSONAL HYGIENE & CORE VALUES. The pupils were informed on the need to understand their sexuality and embrace their uniqueness. They were equally reminded of the need to protect their personal space and also respect that of others. They were encouraged to always speak out and to report any untoward behaviour. Emphasis was laid on the need to collectively stop any form of sexual abuse.
The pupils were encouraged to maintain good hygiene as this will help prevent diseases and help them live a healthier life. Some hygiene practises such as brushing at least twice daily, bathing regularly and properly, proper handwash, and washing one’s clothes were mentioned. They were equally informed that this would help boost their self-esteem.
Furthermore, the pupils were encouraged to imbibe the following core values: Love, Integrity, Self-Control, and Honesty. These values, amongst others, we helped shape the pupils into responsible individuals. The pupils were equally informed that if they want to see a better Nigeria, it must start with each of them imbibing the right values. They were told to love themselves irrespective of their ethnic differences. They were equally encouraged to always exercise self-control as this virtue will help prevent some ugly incidents like getting into a fight and destroying other people’s belongings.
