BeamLight Foundation (BLF) visited Oworonsoki Primary School, Local Government Primary School, Mosafejo Primary School, Ayeroju Primary School and Muslim Mission Primary School on 20th November 2024.

The pupils were taught the basics of sex education along with important values they should imbibe. They were informed of the basic differences between a male and a female child. They were informed that their private parts should not be made public, and on no account should they allow anyone to touch their private parts. They were equally encouraged to always speak up and not allow a threat from a paedophile to deter them from reporting any incidence of sexual molestation or abuse. The pupils were equally reminded to set healthy boundaries and not allow anyone to invade their personal space. They were equally told to respect others’ personal space as well.

The following values, among others, were taught: Love, Honesty/Integrity, Kindness/Empathy, Responsibility, Patience, Critical thinking/Problem Solving. The pupils were all encouraged to imbibe these values as they will help them sail smoothly through life. Love, which is the cornerstone of all the values, should be embraced by all. Emphasis was equally laid on the need for the pupils to cultivate patience. They can imbibe this by learning to take turns and generally being more tolerant. The team also reiterated the importance of critical thinking/problem solving. The team encouraged the pupils that instead of complaining about what is wrong in their schools, state, and nation, they should rather start thinking critically on how they can contribute to providing solutions to these arrays of issues.
