BeamLight Foundation seminar for Preteens & Teens (ages: 8 – 19) held on Friday, 8th September 2017 was successful. The theme: Creating a Balance Between Your Passion and Academics was aptly discussed. The guest speaker (Ms. Idongesit Bruno) encouraged participants to fan their passion into flame. She emphasized the need for participants to profit from their passion. This can be done through brainstorming on how to monetize your passion; e.g. selling a product online, sharing your knowledge about your passion through writing books, blogging etc; improving on your existing skills, getting outside your comfort zone (work on improving your personal weaknesses), overcoming roadblocks (factors preventing you from following your dreams), getting creative with money etc. Ms. Bruno also stressed the need for participants to cultivate the entrepreneur mindset: “The one with the Vision and the Passion to make things happen.”
Still on the subject of Creating a Balance Between Your Passion and Academics, the visionary of BeamLight Foundation (Joy Obehi-Ayemhere) spoke extensively on the need for participants to always be in flight mode (be prepared) like an eagle. She equally stressed the need for participants to pursue academics with vigour. She encouraged participants to pursue knowledge (Proverbs 18:15; 2 Timothy 2:15). There is no room for laziness or idleness (Proverbs 6:6-11). She equally encouraged participants to leverage on their academics to promote their passion by: reading books along their area of interest (passion), creating a picture of what they want to be a couple of years from now (say, 10 – 15), writing out their goals clearly, never getting caught up in the comparing game (2 Corinthians 10:12), speaking the right words to yourself etc. Also, both speakers emphasised on the need for participants to find the balance between their passion and academics. These include: Managing their time schedule, not procrastinating, being organised, creating time for both school work and extracurricular activities etc. Thanks so much for your prayers, love and support!
